How to Volunteer!
The Jacksonville Literacy Council (JLC) needs your help whenever you can give it. You can serve
your community in numerous ways that will improve the educational level of the people where we live. Call us if you
can assist a few hours any time every week by:
- Tutoring basic reading skills and/or English as a Second Language. Your students will amply repay
your investment of time with gratifying appreciation.
- Qualifying to teach G.E.D. classes to adults and court ordered juveniles who are hungry for
knowledge and eager to complete their formal education. You'll see an immediate improvement in the
lives of those who graduate.
- Reaching out to the community to enroll people in need of literacy training, and educating the public
about the learning opportunities provided by the Literacy Council. You'll be welcomed and commended for
your work wherever you make contacts.
- Supplying office assistance to the JLC Program Director with typing, filing, handling public inquiries
about literacy programs, and conducting special events like the Corporate Spelling Bee. You'll be amazed
about how much good work is being done daily.
- Writing grants and soliciting donations to fund the essential activities of the teachers and tutors.
Your fellow volunteers and the students will love you for giving them the resources they need for learning.
